Short answer
When an AC blows warm air, start with the easy things: make sure the thermostat is on Cool and below room temperature, check the breakers and outdoor disconnect, and replace a dirty filter. If the outdoor fan isn't spinning, the system is iced over, or the air is still warm, turn the system off and call a licensed technician. Common causes in Laredo include failed capacitors, refrigerant leaks and dirty outdoor coils.

8 common causes of warm air
- Thermostat settings. Set to Heat or Fan On instead of Cool/Auto, or dead batteries.
- Tripped breaker or disconnect. The indoor blower runs, but the outdoor unit has no power, so you get room-temperature air.
- Failed capacitor. Very common in summer heat. The outdoor unit hums but the fan or compressor won't start.
- Bad contactor. The switch that turns the outdoor unit on wears out.
- Dirty outdoor coil. The system can't reject heat, so it overheats and may shut off on safety.
- Low refrigerant from a leak. Air feels cool at first, then turns warm, and coils may ice.
- Frozen evaporator coil. Ice blocks airflow, usually from a dirty filter or low refrigerant.
- Clogged condensate drain. A float switch can shut the outdoor unit off to prevent water damage.
Safe checks you can do
- Thermostat on Cool, fan on Auto, setpoint a few degrees below room temperature.
- Check the breakers for the indoor and outdoor units. Reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, leave it off and call.
- Go outside: is the outdoor unit running? Is the fan spinning?
- Replace the air filter if it's dirty.
- Look for ice on the refrigerant lines or indoor unit. If you see it, switch to fan only to thaw.
- Check for water around the indoor unit or a full drain pan.
Don't open electrical panels inside the unit, poke at the fan, or add refrigerant. Capacitors can hold a dangerous charge even with the power off.

π (956) 307-9262When it's an emergency
In Laredo summer heat, a dead AC can quickly become a health risk for infants, older adults, and people with medical conditions. If the house is heating up fast, see emergency AC repair in Laredo or call (956) 307-9262. If anyone shows signs of heat illness, call 911.
Preventing it next summer
- Change filters regularly, monthly during peak season if you have pets or a lot of dust.
- Keep the outdoor unit clear and rinse the coil each spring (power off).
- Get a professional tune-up before summer to test capacitors, contactors, refrigerant charge and the drain line.
